There is some debate over whether or not eReaders and eBooks are more eco-friendly than traditional print books. Critics say that while they cut down on paper consumption, they do create electronic waste plus the environmental impacts of making the eReaders. This infographic shows how eBooks are a greener choice. I myself pre-ordered a Kindle Touch just a few weeks ago, using all of my Amazon gift cards that I earned through Swagbucks, and I am looking forward to reading on it!
What do you think? Are eBooks green?

There is no doubt in my mind that eBooks are greener! I want Santa Claus to bring me a Kindle Fire for Christmas!
ReplyDeleteI think if the e-reader is taken care of and the person using it reads a lot it can be an eco-friendly choice. The greenest choice is to use the library but I know that's not always doable. I read a lot of e-books on my iPhone since I already have it. I have thought about getting a Kindle but I'm waiting to decide if it's worth it and going to be a greener choice for me.
ReplyDeleteI think with all electronics the key to lessening their impact is to take care of them so they last, recycle or sell them when you are no longer using them and take care to not over charge them as it's hard on the battery and uses more electricity.
that may have been one of my favorite infographics, really great info. I like stats :)
ReplyDeleteGreat infographic. I guess you don't really think about it this way from day to day. It is much like
ReplyDeleteWhile I can certainly see how all ebooks would be much greener than printing books...I would really miss my hardcover books!
ReplyDeleteI'm impatiently waiting for an e-reader for Christmas.
ReplyDeleteConsidering I can read a book in 2-3 days and always have 1-4 books waiting for when I finish the first I'd say for me eReaders are greener.
ReplyDeleteI agree, I LOVE that I have the Kindle app on my iPad and can take my books with me wherever I go. We can create more energy a lot faster than we can create more trees!!
ReplyDeleteThis is a very informative infographic! I never thought of it this way and I have to agree - yes, it takes energy to make the eReaders, but it is so much greener!
ReplyDeleteI used to be a hater of e-books I admit it. Now I'm one of the herd, but sometimes it's still good to actually feel the book in your hand and smell the yummy goodness.

We love our Kindle! I'm just reading War & Peace, which I'd never read if I had to haul around a 1400 page book :)
ReplyDeleteI have to admit that I really love holding a good book. I never really get into a book when it's on an e-reader. But they are better for the environment AND they are a lot easier to carry around.
ReplyDeleteThat's so interesting! Ebooks are definitely a greener choice but I end up just using the library instead. That's green too, right?!
ReplyDeleteI love my eBooks - much less clutter too. However, we're homeschooling and I think it's very important to read 'paper' books to my children and for them to see me with a 'paper' book in my hands some of the time.
