DreamWorks Trollhunters Now Avaibale on Netflix! #StreamTeam

I am a Netflix Stream Team member and have been given a Netflix membership to help facilitate my posts. All thoughts and opinions are 100% my own.

Today is the first day of Christmas vacation for my kids and no joke, the "I'm bored" comments are already starting. How they can be bored when they have a brand new playroom with countless toys and video games is beyond me, but there you have it. So with days and days (and DAYS) ahead of us before school starts back up, I'm left with the task of keeping them busy and happy. Thankfully we have some snow still on the ground to play in, but when they come in from the cold we also now have the highly anticipated DreamWorks Trollhunters to stream on Netflix! I have to say I am super excited about this new Netflix Original Series as it looks like something the whole family will enjoy.

From the limitless imagination of acclaimed filmmaker Guillermo del Toro comes a tale of two worlds set to collide in the epic saga DreamWorks Trollhunters. When ordinary teenager Jim Lake Jr. stumbles upon a mystical amulet on his way to school one morning, he inadvertently discovers an extraordinary secret civilization of mighty trolls beneath his small town of Arcadia. Suddenly destined to play a crucial role in an ancient battle of good and evil, Jim is determined to save the world – right after gym class. A must-see viewing event for the entire family!

Now the real challenge for us is going to be NOT binge watching all episodes in two days. My goal is to make it last through winter break so we have a new episode to look forward to every day. Lucky for us that today is not only the first day of vacation, but the first day of Trollhunters! We can't wait to get started.

I have to admit, when my boys first got into Minecraft a few years ago, I just didn't get it. OK, fine, I still don't really get the appeal if I am honest, but all four of them love it as so I make the best of it. Minecraft is a game about placing blocks (or removing them) to build awesome world. Players can play in Creative Mode with unlimited resources to build whatever they want or play in Survivor mode where they have to fend off enemies. I think what my boys love the most is that they can play on their own or together, all though playing together some time causes arguments. And by arguments I mean they go into each others worlds and destroy things. Sigh. Now I still might not quite "get it", but I do love that it is a family friendly game that they all enjoy.

One of the most popular items I have seen this holiday shopping season is the Xbox One S Minecraft bundle. I first saw these pop up on Black Friday ads back in November and immediately new I had to get one for our family. (I bought mine fromBest Buy on Thanksgiving). What's so great about this bundle is not only that it comes with all the Minecraft games preloaded, but also that the new Xbox One S plays 4K Blu-ray™ movies. That feature alone sold me. This bundle is available right now at Best Buy for just $249.99. which is a $50 savings off the regular price.

Now if the Minecraft lover in your life already has all the games, there are plenty of Minecraft toys and collectibles that he or she would love. There are mini figures and playsets, card games and even drones, so there is something for everyone in every price range. Take a look at all of the Minecraft Gifts available at Best Buy.

What Minecraft gifts are you grabbing this holiday season?

Return to Star Hallow with Netflix #StreamTeam #GilmoreGirls

I am a Netflix Stream Team member and have been given a Netflix membership to help facilitate my posts. All thoughts and opinions are 100% my own.

If you watched television in the early 2000's, you surely have hear of the hit show Gilmore Girls. And if you say that you haven't, well then your lying. Even people who didn't actively watch the show knew of it and it's extreme popularity as it was a cornerstone for the CW Network for 7 seasons. Now, 16 years after we were first taken to Star Hallow, Connecticut, Lorelai and Rory are back in a 4-epside miniseries on Netflix: Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life.

Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life has been streaming on Netflix since November 25, 2016 and my social media stream have been filled with both new and old fans of the show watching it and falling in love with the characters all over again. And it seems like once isn't enough for some of the hard core viewers.

Have you had a chance to watch it yet?

About Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life
Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life consists of four memorable chapters from the lives of Lorelai, Emily, Rory and countless more Stars Hollow stalwarts. The story is told through four 90-minute chapters -- each spanning one season: Winter, Spring, Summer, Fall -- and brings back to life everything from the quaint corner diner to the dreamy Dragonfly Inn to a fast-talking, quick-witted mother-daughter love story unlike any other.

Disney is Coming to Netflix! #StreamTeam

I am a Netflix Stream Team member and have been given a Netflix membership to help facilitate my posts. All thoughts and opinions are 100% my own.

Disney movies are a staple in our house. Old and new we love them all. With Disney adding both Marvel and Star Wars to their lineup over the past few years, yeah well you can say that we might be a bit Disney obsessed even. So we were excited to see more Disney titles arriving on Netflix. In fact starting this month, Netflix has become the exclusive US pay TV home of the latest films from Disney, Marvel, Lucasfilm and Pixar. Eeeeeeek! Now do we own many of these movies on Blu-ray already? Why yes, yes we do (see previous note on obsession). But there is just something better about having them on Netflix and accessible at the touch of a button from any of our numerous devices.

Watch: Marvel's Luke Cage Official Trailer #StreamTeam #LukeCage

I am a Netflix Stream Team member and have been given a Netflix membership to help facilitate my posts. All thoughts and opinions are 100% my own.

I have a love for all things super heroes and Marvel and while I could blame it on the fact that I have 4 boys, it's really just all me. They are just my excuse to embrace my inner geek. One of my top favorite things to watch on Netflix have been their Original Marvel shows Daredevil and Jessica Jones. I enjoyed both tremendously, but Jessica Jones kind of blew me away. It was just that good. Well written and perfectly cast, Krysten Ritter has shown she is the perfect actress to play Jessica Jones. As soon as I finished binge watching season 1, I was ready for the next Defender series: Marvel's Luke Cage. These Marvel series on Netflix are turning out fantastic and I am completely addicted.

Mike Colter, who played Luke Cage in Jessica Jones, continues in his role as Luke Cage and I. Can't. Wait. He was also perfect for his character, not to mention delicious (holy muscles!), and I'm having a hard time containing my excitement over this next series. Marvel's Luke Cage will premier on Netflix on September 30, 2016 at 12:01am. Will you be watching?

Be sure to also check out Marvel's Daredevil and Marvel's Jessica Jones on Netflix. We still have two months until the arrival of Mr. Cage, which is plenty of time to catch up on all the Marvel Defenders awesomeness.

About Marvel’s Luke Cage:
After a sabotaged experiment leaves him with super strength and unbreakable skin, Luke Cage (Mike Colter) becomes a fugitive trying to rebuild his life in modern day Harlem, New York City. But he is soon pulled out of the shadows and must fight a battle for the heart of his city – forcing him to confront a past he had tried to bury.

Walt Disney Animation Studios’ comedy-adventure, Zootopia  broke records worldwide, earning more than $900 million at the global box office to date. The best reviewed movie of 2016, critics and audiences around the world have fallen in love with the wonderfully innovative animal metropolis of Zootopia  and the comedic chemistry of rookie rabbit officer Judy Hopps (Ginnifer Goodwin) and scam-artist fox Nick Wilde (Jason Bateman). It’s been called one of the best buddy cop comedies in years! Thankfully, there’s more—much more.

When the animated hit arrives home on Digital HD, Blu-ray™, Disney Movies Anywhere, DVD and On- Demand (does not include bonus) platforms June 7, 2016, viewers will also discover more about the evolution of this extraordinary tale through in-depth bonus features.

Bonus features include*:

BLU-RAY 3D, BLU-RAY and DIGITAL HD:
  • Zoology: The Roundtables – Ginnifer Goodwin hosts an in-depth look at the movie’s characters, animation, environments and more. The artists at Disney Animation give a rare and in-depth look at the complexities of bringing an all-animal world to life from the ground-breaking technology behind the characters’ fur and clothing to the varied and vast environments of Tundratown, Sahara Square and the Rainforest District as well as the deep thought and research given to bringing 64 unique animal species to life through animation.
  • The Origin of an Animal Tale – Follow the story’s development from its origins to a big story shift that turned the film upside down. In this documentary, filmmakers give a candid look into the difficulties of creating the story of Zootopia and the bold decision to switch the main character late in the production process, putting one resolute rabbit center stage.
  • Research: A True-Life Adventure – The filmmakers traveled the globe to find inspiration for the diverse characters and amazing city of Zootopia. They reflect on the importance of research and how a deep dive into animal behavior at Disney Animal Kingdom theme park and a deep immersion into animal society on the African savanna shaped and inspired the characters of Zootopia and changed the filmmakers’ lives forever.
  • Z.P.D. Forensic Files – Find the movie’s hidden Easter Eggs. Every city has its hidden gems, especially when it has been created by the filmmakers of Disney Animation who love nothing more than sprinkling hidden references to some of Disney’s greatest animated features throughout the story.

Directed by Byron Howard (“Tangled,” “Bolt”) and Rich Moore (“Wreck-It Ralph,” “The Simpsons”) and produced by Clark Spencer (“Wreck-It-Ralph,” “Lilo & Stitch”), the progressive mammal metropolis of Zootopia is a melting pot where animals from every habitat live side by side and "anyone can be anything." But when new rabbit police officer Judy Hopps (voice of Ginnifer Goodwin) arrives in town she discovers that being the first bunny on a police force of tough, hulking animals isn't so easy.

Determined to prove herself, she jumps at the opportunity to crack an unsolved, challenging case even if it means working with a fast-talking, scam-artist fox, Nick Wilde (voice of Jason Bateman), to solve the mystery. But the case leads these two unlikely partners to an uneasy conclusion that Zootopia’s "evolved" society is being pulled apart by unseen forces determined to use fear to take control of the city by turning predators and prey against each other.

Others who helped bring the world of Zootopia to life, include a remarkable roster of voice talent including Idris Elba (BBC’s “Luther,” Golden Globe®-nominated for Netflix’s “Beasts of No Nation”) as Judy’s no-nonsense cape buffalo boss Chief Bogo, Jenny Slate (“Obvious Child,” “Marcel the Shell”) as Assistant Mayor Bellwether, Nate Torrence (HBO’s “Hello Ladies,” Fox’s “Weird Loners”) as charming cheetah Clawhauser, Bonnie Hunt (“Return to Me,” “Jerry Maguire”) and Don Lake (“Dumb and Dumber To,” “The Bonnie Hunt Show”) as Judy’s anxious, but supportive parents, Tommy Chong (“Up in Smoke,” “That ’70s Show”) as Yax the Yak, J.K. Simmons (“Juno,” Oscar® winner for “Whiplash”) as Mayor Lionheart, Octavia Spencer (“Insurgent,” Oscar® winner for “The Help”) as the distraught Mrs. Otterton, Alan Tudyk (“Rogue One: A Star Wars Story,” “Trumbo”) as Duke Weaselton, Shakira as the socially minded international pop star Gazelle, Raymond Persi (“Wreck-It Ralph,” WDAS story artist) as Flash the sloth, Maurice LaMarche (“Pinky and the Brain,” two-time Emmy® winner “Futurama”) as Mr. Big, Tiny Lister (“Friday,” “The Fifth Element”) as Finnick, John DiMaggio (Fox’s “Futurama,” Cartoon Network’s “Adventure Time”) as Jerry Jumbeaux Jr., Katie Lowes (ABC’s “Scandal,” “Big Hero 6”) as Dr. Badger, and Jesse Corti (“Frozen,” “Beauty and the Beast”) as Mr. Manchas.

The film is also supported by an emotional and powerful music score created by Michael Giacchino (“Jurassic World,” Academy Award®-winning composer for Disney•Pixar’s “Up”) and an inspiring original song, “Try Everything,” performed by Grammy®-winning, international superstar Shakira (voice of Zootopia’s biggest pop star, Gazelle) and written by Grammy®-winning singer-songwriter Sia and songwriting duo Stargate.

Netflix: There's an Ep for That #StreamTeam

I am a Netflix Stream Team member and have been given a Netflix membership to help facilitate my posts. All thoughts and opinions are 100% my own.

Parenting is hard, by far the hardest thing you will ever do. If you thought the newborn and toddler stages were difficult, they are a walk in the park when compared to dealing with older kids and social situations and those awkward conversations you wish you could avoid. My oldest son will be starting middle school this fall and I am absolutely horrified.

As tough as some conversations may be, no matter what age your kids are, they need to be had and sometimes it is nice to have a starting off point. This is where Netflix has your back. Whether it's a talk about getting along with your siblings or peer pressure or even body image, Netflix has en "ep" for that!

For the little kids:

Every month I cannot wait to see the list of movies and shows being added to Netflix. In April when I saw The Money Pit pop up I was ecstatic, it is still one of the funniest movies ever! With May almost here, I took a gander at the list to see what was coming and was thrilled to see girlie movie Bring It On will be here soon. Shop For Energy Star Certified Washers & Dryers at Best Buy #bbyed #EarthDay

Every April as Earth Day nears, many of us wonder what little things (or big things) we can do in our home to benefit the environment. Recycling, composting and conserving are all fairly easy things that come to mind. A big way to save both energy and water is buy replacing an old washer and dryer. A few years ago we replaced our top loading, 15 year old set (which died) with a front loading LG set and wow did we see a difference. Now I'm not saying you should toss a perfectly good, working appliance, but if you're in need of a replacement, Best Buy has a wide selection of Energy Star certified models to choose from. And remember that if your old model still works, there are plenty of places who would take it as a donation (my mom donated hers to a local animal shelter).

Why Energy Star?
I know it's common to wonder just how much of a difference and Energy Star certified washer or dryer can make over an older model that is not Energy Star. Here is a brief breakdown on what you can expect, then make sure you check out Earth Day on Best Buy for deals on Energy Star certified appliances.

Energy Star certified Washers:
  • On average, a new Energy Star certified clothes washer uses 280 KWh of electricity and can save you $40 a year on your utility bills compared to a standard model.
  • A full-sized Energy Star certified clothes washer uses 13 gallons of water per load, compared to the 23 gallons used by a standard machine, saving more than 3,000 gallons of water, per year!
  • Washers built before 2003 are significantly less efficient than newer models. If you have a standard clothes washer that is over 10 years old, it's costing you, on average $180 a year.

Energy Star certified Dryers
  • Use 20 percent less energy than conventional models without sacrificing features or performance
  • Use sensor drying, not timed drying. Energy Star dryer models incorporate advanced moisture sensors to help you reduce your dryer’s energy use. This feature ensures that your dryer will automatically shut off when clothes are dry
  • Longer drying cycles on a low heat setting use less energy. When you purchase an Energy Star certified clothes dryer, look in the informational materials shipped with the product for which cycle was tested for certification and how the dryer’s other cycles or settings may use more or less energy. (I personally always use the low heat setting on our Energy Star LG dryer).

A very cool new washer and dryer pairing to check out right now are the LG Twin Wash and Sidekick. The LG Twin Wash lets you was two loads of laundry at the same time. Hang on, that needs repeating: AT THE SAME TIME! That is simply awesome. While your full size load is working up top in the main tub, you can put a smaller load in the Sidekick pedestal. This is really perfect for things like delicates or even workout gear. I love this concept. As someone who is at the gym 4-5 days a week, I do a lot of smaller loads and honestly, it's wasteful. The Sidekick pedestal is just the right size for this. Plus the Sidekick can be paired with almost any LG front load washer, so you can add it to the model you already have at home.

Netflix: Your Home for LEGO Shows #StreamTeam

I am a Netflix Stream Team member and have been given a Netflix membership to help facilitate my posts. All thoughts and opinions are 100% my own.

As a mom of four boys, I have sort of a love/hate relationship with LEGOs building block. I love them because my kids love them and they can provide hours of creativity and entertainment. I hate them because they end up being everywhere. EVERYWHERE. I think every parent at some point has stepped on a LEGO brick while barefoot and the pain is quite surprising from something so little. If you haven't yet had the pleasure, my advice to you: wear sock all the time.

Of course their love for LEGOs has carried over into a love of the LEGO video games as well as LEGO shows and movies. Thankfully, Netflix has always had a few LEGO options to choose from and believe me, we've seen them all multiple times. In March, Netflix added two more to its lineup with LEGO Bionicle: The Journey to One and LEGO Friends: The Power of Friendship.

LEGO Friends Camp Wild Hearts Still 2
LEGO Friends: The Power of Friendship

LEGObionicle
LEGO Bionicle: The Journey to One
With these two new additions, Netflix now has 12 LEGO offerings on its streaming service including Marvel Super Heroes, DC Comics Super Heroes, Ninjago and more. Which ones does your family love watching?

Fuller House Now On Netflix #StreamTeam

I am a Netflix Stream Team member and have been given a Netflix membership to help facilitate my posts. All thoughts and opinions are 100% my own.

I have probably said it a thousand times before but I don't mind saying it again. One of the best things about Netflix is their original shows. And not just that they offer original shows, but that their original shows are awesome. It's been weeks since I finished Jessica Jones and yet I still think about it because it was that darn good.  Next to the Marvel shows, I think Netflix's Fuller House is one of their most highly anticipated shows to date. If you grew up in the 80s/90s like I did, you are familiar with Full House. And yes, I was a huge fan and made sure I watched it every TGIF. So getting the cast back together for a new show with the girls all grown up is exciting.

Whether you were a fan of the original show or a complete newbie, I definitely think this is a fun family show that you should give a try.
