After four years of car payments I am thrilled to say that we just sent in our last payment and our minivan is now paid off! It is so nice to have one less bill to worry about. Since I don't usually drive that far, the van is still in excellent condition and I look forward to being car payment free for the next few years. Naturally, this also leads to daydreams about getting a new vehicle. We don’t plan on doing that for a while, but it is fun to look at what is out there. My dream car right now would be an eco-friendly minivan. But of course no one makes one yet. I keep hoping that a car company will announce the release of a hybrid minivan. I know another minivan might not be very exciting or glamorous, but it is very practical for my large family of six.
With this terrible recession, most of the new car dealerships in our town are gone. The Ford dealer closed up and the Chrysler dealer is now just a service center that sells some used cars. The only place to shop for a new car in town is the Jeep dealer. So when the time comes for us to start looking at new minivans, we will have to go outside of town to do our shopping. Which stinks because I would love to support our local economy. Maybe by the time we are ready to purchase a new vehicle, there will be a hybrid or electric minivan on the market. Or maybe even solar – that would be my ultimate dream! While I wait for that, I will enjoy not having to make any car payments for a while.
Are you currently making payments on a vehicle? Are you almost done? What do you think your next vehicle might be?
