I think it's good to start early. Throughout the year, if you see something that reminds you of someone, buy it for a Christmas gift. I keep a stash of gifts in a closet, and then by Christmastime, I have a lot of gifting taken care of. Also, I think it's important to say no sometimes. I think we commit to way too much during this time. It shouldn't be a time of stress.
